Activities Involved in Student Life

A Zaytuna student is driven by purpose and dedication, and because of this, an education at Zaytuna College can be transformative. It seeks to share with students the best from the Islamic and Western scholarly traditions, while simultaneously challenging them to think about who they were, are and who they would like to become. This process happens by providing a co-curricular approach to learning that requires students to apply what they know outside of the classroom. This approach motivates our students to become young people rooted in faith and action.

Global Classroom

Engage your mind, body and soul.

Students are introduced and gain proficiency in swimming, archery, and horseback riding as part of the Zaytuna College curriculum. Umar ibn Al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) is reported to have said, “Teach your children swimming, archery and horseback riding.” Musnad Ahmad.

Monthly Khatmah

All students are highly encouraged to participate in a monthly reading of the entire Qur’an. Students will be joined by faculty and staff in each reading one thirtieth of the Qur’an, together, during a single gathering. We believe that this practice constitutes the spiritual backbone of the College.

Monthly Iftar and Conversation

All students are motivated to fast on Mondays and Thursdays, or as often as they find easy. A meaningful conversation and a shared meal cooked by the student community follows. All are encouraged to partake in this monthly activity.

Chess and Jiu-Jitsu

Male and female students will learn the skills of chess and Jiu-Jitsu throughout the semester in classes that seek to challenge the student to engage in both mind and body training.
