Al-Alusi Dormitory
The Al-Alusi Dormitory, is located on the 10-acre grounds of Zaytuna College’s Upper Campus. The dormitory, built in the 1950s, is a two-storied building, consisting of 19 dorm rooms, a small workout room, a study lounge, a common area with a fireplace and lounge, and a large communal kitchen.
Each dorm room is approximately 170 square feet and can accommodate two people per room. There are bathroom facilities on both floors, which are equipped with five private stalls. Each stall has a toilet, sink, and shower. The building is equipped with internet, and there is a coin-operated washer and dryer located in a separate building across from the dormitory in Sophia Hall.
This scenic and serene dormitory is located at the edge of Tilden Park and boasts magnificent views of both the Bay and the park. There is a bus stop near campus from where students can take the bus to the Lower Campus, UC Berkeley, and Downtown Berkeley. The dorm is 1.9 miles from the Lower Campus.
Le Conte Dormitory
The Le Conte Dormitory at 2479 Le Conte is a three-storied, ten-apartment building, consisting of two 2-bedroom apartments, four 1-bedroom apartments, and four studios. Built in the 1920s, the building has a lot of personality that sets it apart from more modern apartment buildings. The apartments are very spacious, with large built in closets, and plenty of storage space. Occupancy per apartment can range from 3-6 residents per apartment depending on size and type of apartment.
Each of the apartments in the building is furnished with twin beds or bunk beds, desks, a dining table and chairs, a refrigerator, and an oven/range. Coin-operated laundry facilities are available in the building, and the apartments are equipped with high-speed internet.
The building is situated at Zaytuna’s Lower Campus, adjacent to the Euclid building, and a minute’s walk away from the Le Conte building, and 1.9 miles away from the Upper Campus. Students living in the building will have access to the numerous UC Berkeley libraries, as well as the Graduate Theological Union Library, all conveniently located within a mile. Downtown Berkeley is a twenty-minute walk from the building.
